I have 2 ms sql server 2008 express installed in 2 labtops, I have db1 which is placed in server1 and db2 which is placed in server 2
when i write a query i need the result to be from both databases so I decided to add a linked server. As i noticed linked server will help me to query a remote server, and that is what i exactly need. BUT unfortinately I couldnt make it.
here is what I did:
from object server(right click) new linked server
In general tab:
linked server: computername\sqlexpress
provider: microsoft OLDEB provider for sql server
product name: sqlserver
data source: computername\sqlexpress
the rest are kept empty
In security tab
I add the sa user and checked impersonate
I chose the be made using the login's current security context radio button
In server options tab:
both RPC and RPC ...
