Reading Windows Username

I need to read the Windows Username (I don't want to switch to windows authintecation).  I just need to read the username so that I can insert into the logon form and the user just type the password.  Can someone tell me how to do this.  I do understand that to work on client machines I would need to use javascript.  I am using vwd 2005.
