I realize this is probably a question people are tired of answering, but ill give it a shot anyhow.
I've been doing web design for a number of years now, but up til now I've only been publishing using various CMS systems (mainly Joomla). I know xhtml/css very well and I'm frequently utilizing javascript libraries (able to do some light editing without being very good at js). I know some basic PHP but im far from an expert. I also know basic SQL. Other than that I'm a windows user and I'm using the Adobe product range on a daily basis. I must admit i'm a sucker for everything new, fancy and visual.
So. I'm at the starting point of the programming/development ladder, and I dont know which way to go. ASP.NET or PHP? My concrete goal is to one day be able to make customized e-commerce solutions from the ground up. Before ordering a bunch of books and spending a lot of time diving into it I want to make sure i make the best ...
