get role of user when supplying username

On a page I have a particular username in a variable called user name

I want to get the role assigned to that user name and then put that in a varriable called current role...

 

Dim currentrole As String = Roles.GetRolesForUser(username)

 

I have been trying to write it, the above is not alloud, can anyone help?
