net.mail problem, is it too difficult to handle?

I'm not sure where to add this post as it seems to cover a lot, considering it also has to do with AJAX. No one is able to help solve this issue in other forumz and my question mostly goes unanswered. So I will see if I can get help from the experts in asp.net forum, my last stop.

I've successfully used net.mail before, but not like this. (note, using Visual Basic)

I have a form with a dropdownlist, gridview, and formview (formview2), with a second formview(formview3). The formview2 provides for information with what's selected in the gridview. The formview3 has an asp:imagebutton hooked up to a ModalPopupExtender. When clicked,
