Why doesn't the list collection for my drop down list keep and display the values I give it?

 This is crazy.
I have a drop down list with text and values that I have specified.  The text is the same as the value for each of the choices.  Each choice is different though.
This was working correctly.  Now it doesn't populate the list with one of the values or text that I specified.  I made the text and value for one of the choices "Phone Number".
This is changed to "Phone number" by vwd at runtime.  I have checked this in design time and confirmed that I have both of these are set to "Phone Number".
I have saved the files with the correct values and rerun the project but it still displays the lower case n.  
I don't understand why this is being changed at runtime to a lowercase n. I don't have any code to tell it to do this.  It worked correctly a little while ago.  Why would this happen?
