I am developing some web sites in which a large part of the textual content is being supplied by the site owner (who is not a developer) using Word.  For a while, I incorporated those textual portions into the .aspx files.  Later on I found that using "#include file" directives worked much better -- I could use them to just link to his files.  Now I want to do the same sort of thing within an .ascx file, but when I try to put an #include statement in an .ascx file, I get an "error rendering control.  An unhandled exception has occurred.  Object reference not set to an instance of an object."  When I removed the "#include file" without doing anything else, the error went away.

My best workaround at this time to use the external file is to replace all of the .ascx control references with "#include file" directives, but that means editing a whole bunch of files.  Copying and pasting ...
