I am attempting to write a REST data service (independent of WCF and ADO.NET) that a .NET client can access.  When I attempt to use the Visual Studio to discover my the running service it makes two calls.  One call is a GET to the retrieve the $metadata and the other call is a POST with a soap+xml format expecting back WSDL.  Is there any way I can send an error message back to Visual Studio on the POST call so that it just expects the GET to only receive the entity sets exposed by my data service?  Why is the second call being made by Visual Studio?  When I use the command line tool DataSvcUtil.exe everything works fine.

Thanks
