New to ASP.NET - Porfolio

Hello


I am new to ASP.NET. I have good understanding of C# and basic understanding of ASP.NET. I applied for a entry level web designer(C# and Asp.NET) job. The employer requested for a online porfolio. I have some questions about this....
Being a .NET web developer can I create a site @http://sites.google.com/site  and share it to the employer or should I create my own personal website from the scratch and host it?
As I already said you I am just  a begininer so creating my own site is a bit impractical to me at this point of time. Are there any other solutions to this.
