make DetailsView visible=False when DDL click / has focus

I have a DDL that on selectedIndexChanged shows the details in a DetailsView.  How can I make the DetailsView invisible when a user clicks on the DDL to make another selection and then reappear on the selecetedIndexChanged when the user has made a selection.
