change returned value

I hope this is an easy one with it being my first post.  Hope I can contribute one day.
 
I have a Select statement that is returning a value that I want to display as "Y".  If no value is retuned then I just want to leave it blank.
Here is the part of the Select statement in question.
this.AddSelectedItem("t_dogs", "name", "DogName")
The value "DogName" is getting populated correctly and is shows up on my page correctly. 
<iC:BoundTextBox DataField="DogName" HeaderText="Dog's<br>Name" />

However, I just want to return "Y" if  "DogName" contains a value.
I am thinking I need a case statement or something.  I am using C#
