making LI in UL horizontal

Hi,

I am using a simple Unordered List UL in html. When I use it the it appears as below:

item 1

item 2

item 3
i.e., verticle. But I want them horizontal like this:

       item 1 item 2 item 3

How  can I do so. which CSS should I apply.
