ValidationSummary

Is there a way to add an error to the validation summary from the code behind page. After the user completes the form on the front page and clicks submit I need to check for something using the code behind page. If this is not true I just want to add this error message ("File not found") to the validation summary on the front page instead of creating a new label to display this error message.
