Does rendering a label control makes overhead than rendering a tag with Runat=server ?

Friends ,

On 1 page I have to display some readonly text.

I have question that is it good to make a <TD> with runat=server and assign value to it at runtime instead of using a label control.

Does rendering a lable control cause more overhead than a <TD runat=server> because my project is quite large and I can use this technique on every page.

For ex -

Initially I had used code like -

HTML code -

                        <td><asp:label id=lblTest runat=server></td>

code behind code -

                          lblTest.text= some value from database.
