page method versus webservice?

I am experimenting with my first use of AJAX.  Can anyone explain the pros/cons  of putting my [WebMethod] in my .aspx.cs page versus putting it in an .asmx.cs page and calling it as a webservice from my AJAX control?  I only intend to use the method on one page in my application.
