Page in folder always redirecting to default.aspx

I have a folder called /user. After I have logged in it keeps redirecting to default.aspx
My web.config includes
    <authentication mode="Forms">
      <forms loginUrl="~/Account/Login.aspx" protection="All" timeout="30" path="/" defaultUrl="~/default.aspx" />
    </authentication>
My account/login.aspx after lookup in database includes
    FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(txtUserName.Text, False)
My user/main.aspx page inherits a base.vb which inclues the following
    Private Sub Page_PreInit(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.PreInit
