needed help on password recovery tool while sending message

hi every one  I am a programmer working on asp.net. I am building a customer portal and I have plan of sending email to customers when he forgets his password. I have some how used the data present in this website ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772058(WS.10).aspx ) configuring the smtp mail. I have got few doubts.  can any one plz clarify these doubts.
