Large vertical space between controls

I have 2 datalist controls inside a cell of a table layout.

After rendering there is a large vertical space between the to controls in the .aspx page.

The properties of the controls are at default with no <BR> tags between the controls.

How do I eliminate the large space between the controls?  Should this be done from within CSS or can it be done withing controls/page html?
