Question on fields with LINQ

I'm trying to do the following:
Dim db As New ListAdminDataContext
Dim rec = (From r In db.Resumes _
               Where r.FILE2 = FileNum _
               Select r)
If rec.Count > 0 Then
    Dim q = (From p In db.members _
                 Where p.FILE2 = FileNum _
                 Select p).Single
    rec(0).CNumber = q.C_NUMBER
end if
I'm getting the following error:
Run-time exception thrown : System.NotSupportedException - The query operator 'ElementAtOrDefault' is not supported.
I suspect rec(0).<field> is not valid?  What is the proper way to do this?  There is no gua ...
