Ajax Cascading Drop Down pass value to SQL datasource

I am trying to pass the "text" value of a Ajax Cascading Drop Down box to a SQL Datasource.  When I bind the dropdown to the appropriate field and insert the record, the "ID" field is populated instead of the "text".

 Example

Car Name is BMW / Record ID is 1

Car Name is Ford / Record ID is 2

The 1 or 2 will pass to the database but not the BMW or Ford. Is there anyway to do this?

 The dropdown lives in a gridview.
