Timer Display for message

Hi im using a .Js file to determine What Browser & version a User has, then i plan on displaying a message for a short period of time based on weather their browser is lower than IE6 for eg if ie5.5 show a overly message. 
How do I set a timer up in asp.net to display this message for a short period of time ? preferably in javascript
