I used to be a software tester. I am a little bit familiar with
stored procedures from client-server apps. My understanding is that they
are on a server (where they operate more efficiently than if they were a
module of code on a client machine) and they are used to modify the
database.
Can anyone give me information a nutshell about stored procedures and when to use them?
How does using them compare with the relatively new GridView and DetailsView controls?
(If anyone can list some websites for how to get started writing a stored procedure or DB access in general, that would be helpful, too.)
I also know that the database can be accessed from VB/C# code.
When does one use code, a stored procedure or the ASP.Net controls?
I know this is pretty wide subject. But, there is just so much in the Data section of the Web Forms tutorials here and in other places. It is a little bit overwhelming.
