best way to validate birthdate?

Hi: I have a form where a user enters their birthday in mm/dd/yyyy format.

I want to validate that a) it is a correctly formatted date and valid date, and b) that the max value is 18 years before today. Can that be done solely with the range validator? I can't figure out how to insert a calculated date into the max date value?
