Gridview on master page problem. It will or will not load depending on how the code used to load the Gridview it is invoked

Hi all
I have a Gridview  [MyGridView] on my masterpage. This Gridview, will display content specific data depending on which content page it is on.
On my masterpage, I have created a delegate [MyDelegate] , and an associated event [MyEvent].  The event is invoked via a Button control [MyButton] on the Master page. Within the [MyButton] click event,  [MyEvent] is invoked. The content page(s) are wired to  [MyEvent]. The content page(s) also have an event handler method [MyEventHandler] which "does something" once  [MyEvent] is invoked. 
so basically I have a situation where I
Go to the next page click on a button [MyButton] which is on the Masterpage within the MyButton] onclick event, invoke the [MyEvent] event execute code within the content page event handler [MyEventHandler] when [MyEvent] is invoked. The above does work.
