We have a web application that was working fine. The user login was taken from the Windows identity (domain\userid) (ie: usnetwork\jschust2). We needed to change this to conform to a new standard to be just the (userid (ie: jschust2).
When the user logged in our system would automatically add a new user to the Membership/Roles (MRP) without them having to enter userID or password.. When they pressed the (Login) link we just ran the following code to add them to the MRP. We didn't use the membership portion of MRP. This code worked fine until we went to short login names.
'*--- Does this user exist in MRP? If not add them
'* We do this by adding the user to a role, Microsoft MRP
'* will add the user and the UserRole, we use the open role
