I'm pretty new to development in general but was assigned to work on a proof of concept project at my work place. Been doing a lot of reading, learning trying to get things up and running but I just had a general question and I'm not really sure if this is where it belongs. If not, please redirect me towards the appropriate forum.

So some background information: this particular project involves working with hardware provided by a third party, who provides an application/drivers to communicate with this particular piece of hardware. Bundled with the software is an API which can be used to develop customized application. The main goal for my project is to extend the use of this hardware and allow remote connectivity through a web interface. The tools at my disposal are of course, Visual Studio and the API. So the current "setup" that I had in mind and have been working towards appears like this:
