Is there anyway to tell if the source of a visitor is a link in an email? If so, what other information can I gather?
I know I can get the URL of the prior page if the visitor was already in a browser, but I would like to get some details if the visitor was in an email.
I have a mass email application. Currently, I assign a unique id to each link so that when the reader clicks the link in the email I can see to which email address use the links. However, if the email is forwarded and the new reader clicks the link, or if the reader copys the link and pastes it to his blog (or other online platform), the source looks the same to my system.
In a perfect world, I would be able to see the "To Address" that opened the link regardless of how many times it is forwarded. Not, only would I be able to improve my link tracking, but I could restrict the link so that it could only be opened from the original email in the original email account.
