pause between commands

I have a button with an onclick event.  I the code behind this event does a few things.  I first want it to verify if the page is validated.  Then if Yes, set the Current_Panel to Visible="false" and Redirect_Panel to Visible="true".  Then set a delay and then redirect to the next page. 
I get this to work, but the changing of the Panel displays do not happen.  It just waits for the delay and redirects.  I want this to switch panels and I would rather not us a UpdateProgress event. 
Any suggestions?
