My function (insertData) carries out the insert query and then calls a routine (bulkInsert) to carry out the bulk insert. In order to handle any errors I'm using a try-catch statement in the function (insertdata). There is no error handling in the routine (bulkInsert), my reasoning being any errors would be passed back to the calling function and would be handled there.
