Developing an e-learning web site

Hi,

Iam new to ASP .Net, before posting this question, i have searched in this forum and did not find the suitable answer.

My requirement is, we want to develop an e-learning web site, where people can login to the site, buy the course, study online etc.,

What is the best strategy, while googling there are lot of open source softwares for development.Is it good to go with open source softwares. If so which one may be good.

Or to start with Visual web developer, design by self and code it.

any other choices which makes my work easier.

Please let me know your opinion.
