how to override a master page event handler

I have a master page with an ajax timer control (AlarmTimer) in it, and an event handler AlarmTimer_Tick.

 I am using this master page within a content page and would like to handle the AlarmTimer_Tick event from the content page, not the master page.

The content page includes the template as follows:
