Validation controls and Google Analytic Event Tracking

I have several web forms with validation controls on them (asp:RequiredFieldValidator etc).
I would like to use Google Analytics Events to track when these controls fire - so I can collect stats on when users hit problems in the forms.
I have looked at the Google Developer Event Tracking Guide and it describes how to raise event on clicks. But I can't figure out how to raise events on a validation error.
Is there a way to wire up Google Analytics Events to the validation controls?
