SQL Server 2008 R2 express Protocols

I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 express then uninstalled and reinstalled
I now have two named protocols
SQLEXPRESS
and
MSSQLEXPRESS
I would like to delete the MSSQLEXPRESS protocol
this computer is a development machine and I do not understand
why I have TWO named protocols
Could I please have detailed direction for the steps to delete the one protocol
