So I've looked around a lot but every implementation has its own focus (obviously), but I was wondering how to go about developing a simple and flexible paging setup for heirachical data...
Say you have a page that you want to display a list or grid or something to the user that has a lot of data flattened:
eg: itemid, name, approval date, approved by, quantity, and so on but you want to be able to sort by and filter by any of the fields shown...
Many of these fields are NOT in the base table (eg "item") but are one or two levels deeper
-eg-
"ItemState(where state=Approved).StateSetDate",
"ItemState(where state=Approved).StateId->StateLookup.Name"
"Item->Inventory.QuantityOnHand"
How are you supposed to "map through" things like this and maintain things like paging and so forth?
So are you supposed to :
1) just "retrieve all the data you can, flatten it, then sort/filter things, then page things" -&g ...

Go to the complete details ...
