update panel on the Grid view

i am using a update panel on a Grid view ,i want to refresh my grid on the gridViewRowcommand.
how this thing can be possible?
actually on row command i am opening pop  up from code behind,if i didn,t apply the update panel then it is working fine and when i apply the update panel then it is not opening.
please suggest me an idea.
