Hey everyone. How is it going? I have been thinking about n-tier development and what the best approcach is for notification between layers. I thought it would lead to an interesting discussion. I would assume in most n-tier environments that all the validation logic and different rules are done on either one of the buisness layers or, in some cases, the data layer. I wouldn't any validation logic on the client app at all except for very basic stuff like "this control can not be null" or other basic things like that. The question is what is the best way to raise validation problems or other such not critical errors between tiers? For example say in your data tier you want to notify the user that their search criteria produced to many results and they must refine their search (yes we could page the results back to them but lets assume you don't want to do that).
