I've been working on this for two days now. I think it is a role provider issue. I installed MS Classified Ads Starter Kit and got it working. I got the bright idea for second copy to be used for a specific use, so I copied the working directory to a new directory and configured it in IIS and our DNS, just like I did the working copy. Set all my permissions and everything, too.
But in VS2008, if I go to website asp.net configuration > security, it says it can't connect to the db or there are no role providers selected, so I go and select one. Hit test and it says it worked. It pulls up in the browser and lets me see my users and looks good. Next thing I know, I go back in to security and it says it can't open the database or there is no role provide selected...so I do it all again.
I took the classifiedsdb and manually attached it to SQLexpress and added a user / password to it that I set in my connection strings in web.config. This helped some SQL err ...
