I'm trying to create a tool that our support team can use that will copy the database structure from one client server to another. This tool must work with sql server 2000, 2005, 2008, and the compatibility level of the 2000 db is 70, so I think I
cannot use smo? The tool needs to discover the existing schema in source server, and then create the database on the destination server using that schema. So far the tool is targeting .net 4.0 and I'm trying to use the System.Data.SqlClient namespace.
I'm thinking there must be a better way to do this?
I saw somewhere else some sql like this "select top 0 * from server1.db.dbo.tableX into server2.db.dbo.tableX", which looks extremely simple, but how do you specify credentials?
Anyways, i'm very new to sql server (we are using express edition). I'm really just looking for advice on what is best way to write this tool? What technology to use? DMO, SMO, SqlClient, something els ...
