event bubbling and user controls

Hi,

My problem is that I am not entering a button click event after making a postback. However, debugging has shown me that it is something to do with the way I have wired up a public event. This is the basic scenario. I will try to keep it as basic as possible incase its something obvious.

In the Index.aspx.cs, from the pageload, I load a usercontrol into a panel

UCBase uc = LoadControl(path) as UCBase; 
panel.AddControl( uc )
uc.SearchBubbleClick += new EventHandler ( searchBubble_click );

As you can see I hook the user control to a public event - SearchBubbleClick - which is defined in the user control base along with a protected  OnSearchBubbleClick( EventArgs e):
