How to use Generic Type?

I have this property in a class:

 public DataTable DataSource
{

set
{
dt = new DataTable();
dt = value;
}
get
{
return dt;
}
} 
 

But i wanna make it to accept a list of Generic type object, I tried:
public List<T> DataSource
{

set
{
dt = new List();
dt = value;
}
get
{
return dt;
}
} b ...
