I have a win 7 64b system with SQL Server 2008 Express installed to the WOW64 area. I have been unable to find any upgrade to SQL Server 2012 Express that will upgrade the named instance. The upgrade install says it completes successfully, but it does not.
No errors are listed in the log files and when I look at the start menu, I have both SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2012, but the 2012 only contains a like to the install center.
If I do the same thing on a Win 7 32b, when it completes, again with no errors shown, I have both SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2012 on the start menu (both with all menu items, including the management studio).
A new install of SQL Server 2012 Express will run correctly, except it creates a menu item for SQL Server 2008 Express with a menu item to the install center for 2008.
Ideas????
