Can't Hit SelectedIndexChanged Event Handler

ASP.NET 2005 using VB. A web user control has a dropdown box. I can't hit the SelectedIndexChanged event handler! AutoPostBack is true and firing. I tried setting AutoEventWireup equal to true and it still does nothing. I put logic in the Page_Load handler to check the SelectedIndex for changes and called the SelectedIndexChanged event directly (using (Me, e) parameters). In debug it skips right over the top of the direct call (acting as though the Subroutine is empty). I wrote another ASP.NET 2005 application earlier this year which works without a hitch! This is totally baffling. Anybody out there experience this before me? This is essentially my second ASP.NET 2005 app.
