Web User Control + Drop Down List Issue

I have a web user control called (Login1.ascs) that resides in my main masterpage (Masterpage.Master). Login1.ascx contains a txtbox, drop down list and search button

I have 2 pages example Home.aspx, and Searchresult.aspx. Both of them uses the main Masterpage.

So when at home.aspx i select something from the drop down list (Say i select option 2) and press the search button. I get redirected to searchresult.aspx. In searchresult.aspx i will expect to see the drop down list to have option 2 as the default/selected.. how do i do this? (this is just an example)
