Error accessing Profiles in Web App

I have a web application project and a web deployment project that I'm trying to use profiles with.  I know that ProfileCommon doesn't exist for Web Application so I've tried using the WebProfile addin.   Whenever I try and use Webprofile.Create, Webprofile.Current I get a null exception thrown as shown below:
