Website ---or--- Project

Hi ....


I am a new developer and want to start learning website development ....
In VS 2008 when i click on        file>>New, i get the option to choose website or project

Can someone please tell me the difference between a website and a project as a website can also be created as project ....
When and what to choose between a website and a project....
