New help with code

Hi, I am new to ASP.NET and never used 3 tiers design in my learning web app.

In ASP Learn area there is a tutorial to edit and display Binary Data, I got stuck with the code be low and hope one of you can convert it for me   

        Dim categoryAPI As New CategoriesBLL()
        Dim categories As Northwind.CategoriesDataTable = categoryAPI.GetCategoryWithBinaryDataByCategoryID(categoryID)
        Dim category As Northwind.CategoriesRow = categories(0)

I need to convert the above to use DAL or using ADO method instead but not sure what the syntax to do that - thanks in advance for any help
