Hi all , I am working on web application in asp.net 2.0 and c# and SQL Server 2005. I have a requirement that whenever new record(s) is inserted in a database , the updated data should be availalble to a web application without clicking on refresh button on web browser i.e. in a kind of real time manner.
The very first thing that came to my mind was using AJAX in that case i can query database server after a particular time and retrieve updated data , though it will make multiple trips to d/b but it will be invisible to user and hence user will have a feel for real time scenario.
But i think that is not a feasible solution at all since querying database say after every 5 min is i guess is the worst solution. Is it possible that wenever new records are inserted in d/b , my d/b informs the application and only then my application makes a trip to database??
Or any other alternate solution?
