prevent browser back button from going through each previous edit/insert page

Is there a way to prevent this?
I have some details pages that are opened from a home page that allow users to enter new data or edit existing data. If, after entering/editing, they hit the browser back button it goes back to each enter or edit screen.
Also, what's the best way to add a button or navigation element to take them back to the home page to the line they were at (the home page is long and you need to scroll down to see more records.
