My website is an internal company site that has about 300 users/employees - I am building a Mass Communication system that will email all or selected groups of users when an administrator wants to "get the word out" about something posted on the site.
I have tried two different approaches to accomplish this using system.net.mail....
1st Approach:
I had the code pull all the email addresses for users then loop each one sending an email on each loop
Get Email Address
Send Email
Loop & Repeat (1-300 more times depending on recipients)
The problem with this approach is that the more addresses that are selected the longer it takes the page to process the request. If 10 or 20 recipients the page posts back very quickly but any more than that and it crawls even to the point of failing to send the message and timeout.
