I'm a recent forced convert from classic ASP, which I have used for over ten years and am having problems with .net
With classic ASP you could easily create a recordset and use the following: <%=(Recordset1.Fields.Item("CommentName").Value)%> anywhere within the HTML of the page, display the output and then easily turn it into an integer and perform math functions on it.
I really can't figure how to do this with dotnet - it seems I can only print out database values within controls. Is there anyway to print out a datbase value without having to put in side a control?
Also it was easy to convert a database value into a string or integer (and for instance add 1 to it), all you would do is:
<%
MyInt = Recordset1.Fields.Item("UserID").Value)
MyInt2 = 1 + MyInt
%>
And then anywhere  in your asp page you could then simply type <% =(myInt)%> to type out the ...
